Timeless New Mexico: RRAA Member, Betty Busby

"Timeless New Mexico"
On display now at the Capitol Rotunda

"Contemporary mixed media fiber art by New Mexico artists. A broad range of expression and materials/techniques used by New Mexico fiber artists will be highlighted by a selection of 43 works that relate to the artists' relationship to the state they call home. Many works are landscapes, some are historical, while others are personal expressions of family." (from the New Mexico Tourism website)

"View From The Tram" quilt by RRAA member, Betty Busby

Imagine my surprise when I was with friend, Donna Barnitz at the opening reception for this amazing fiber arts show at the Capitol Rotunda (Donna has her work in this show too) when Donna pointed out this beautiful piece to me, telling me that it was made by an RRAA member, Betty Busby. I didn't have my camera with me, so I took this on my handy dandy cell phone.

The exhibit, "Timeless New Mexico" is a beautiful exhibit and we have a few artists from Rio Rancho who are in this show besides RRAA member, Betty Busby. If you have never been to the Capitol Rotunda at all, this is a must. First of all, there is the current temporary exhibit of this fiber art show that will be there until August 26th, 2011. You can view the works M-F from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. Be sure to check before you go that it is not a furlough day (because they just might. For more information, you can go here. In addition to this exhibit is three to four floors of the NM Public Art collection. Well, not all of what they own is on display, but it is a beautiful and extensive collection. Best part? Admission is free. I noticed that many artists donated their work to the collection.

Do visit Betty's website to see more of her incredible work (a link through is provided just by clicking on her name).

I know that many of our RRAA members are participating in shows that should be mentioned here on this blog. However, if no one sends us the information, we can't post it (or, you can post it yourself and I will give you access). It is a FREE and effective way to market and promote yourself. And, might I add, relatively painless...

MARKETING YOURSELF IN THE 21ST CENTURY

How does an artist reach their target market and seek out buyers for their work? With all the high tech possibilities available, it seems overwhelming. With the myriad of ways to reach an audience, photographers Pat Berrett and Tim Anderson will let you in on some of their tricks of the trade.
"Marketing 101 lite program"
Topics will include:
  • Evaluating what you create and how it fits in the marketplace.
  • Who is your target market
  • What channels of communication do they use.
  • Marketing tools for the 21st century, ie. websites, social media, electronic presentations.
  • Discussion/questions and answers.
This program will take place at the monthly membership meeting of the Rio Rancho Art Association (RRAA) on Monday, May 9th at 6:30-8:30pm at Destiny Center, 4401 Northern Blvd., Rio Rancho.
There will be a short business meeting and the program presentation will follow immediately afterwards. The public is encouraged to attend and join the RRAA members for refreshments afterward.
This event is free of charge and one need not be a memeber to attend.
